Terrifying Collection (rensaku)

Shambling monster
Terrifying collection
Borrowed body parts

Fur where none should sprout
Feathers in other places
Far too many eyes

What big fangs you have
Dressed in grandma's flannel gown
scent of blood and poop

Sit with us for tea
How has your day been so far
Don't notice corpses

Most did not suffer
much unlike this one still lives
Let me borrow blade
Army of monsters
Rampaging across H P
Without direction

Secret Group (resaku)

Don't tell anyone
Secret group handles these things
When least expected

Hired assassin smiles
You don't want grisly details
Murder is messy

Act like all is well
Find something to write about
Ignore stacked corpses
Nothing to see here
No such thing as secret group
Don't get in our way

Hashtag Assassin and the Army of Monsters (rensaku)

Hashtag assassin
Leading army of monsters
Through readers kitchen

On way to slaughter
Almost human creatures drool
Over Capn Crunch

Mindless things break wind
Concerto of hunger growls
In your breakfast nook

Please do not get up
Metallic fangs nibble toast
With butter and jam

Invaded reader
Stunned by army of monsters
Has nothing to say

We're just passing through
Eating everything in your
Refrigerator
The hashtag hassle
has begun with a gurgle
Weird poets giggle

Teacher

I met this rabbi
Who shows war urge misguided
Taught me a few things

Storm (rensaku)

Clouds over lake flash
Groan grows to bellowing boom
Drops wet projectiles

Electricity
Refuses half the county
Poet grabs pencil

Magic energy
Withheld from appliances
Light bulb ignores switch

Loss of power sucks
People show human nature
For better or worse

Insert this side up
Caution severe tire damage
Come to Jamaica

Blinding thunder clap
Deletes modern convenience
Empty streets run off

Hadn't been for love
I would be in jail again
Not in Burmingham

It's time to learn things
Not just quiet listening
Smack the butt of spring

Newlyweds cuddle
Give up electricity
You are all I need

Wind lashed summer rain
Now electric goes offline
What next? Gravity?

Both Begin and End

Both begin and end
Infectious laughter attached
Viral reading trend

Haiku quarantined
Verse infected with laughter
Sides reported split

Other symptoms range
From feelings of "normalcy"
To life extension

Do not read haiku
Unless you like belly laughs
In small packages

If you find haiku
Do not panic, they smell fear
Call someone who cares

I don't know whether
We can get out of this burb
Both begin and end
Infectious haiku
Warning! Do not read this verse
Or the ones above

In  teen-age wasteland

Leave nothing standing
Shatter every window 'til
It is blown away

Take sad song make it better
She's under you skin

Row your boat gently
Down the stream row merrily
Life is but a dream

Seeking deeper thoughts

String between two cans
Hums with our conversation
High definition

I as poet thank
You dear reader responding
What you really think
Defining types of metahaiku is not as easy as I make it seem. I'm terribly sorry for offending traditional haiku readers, but I am a nonconformist
disestablishmentarian so this is what I do. I humbly apologize for any hurt feelings, but there is more, much more to come.

weapon

eyes closed shallow breath
metamorphosis begins
pen becomes weapon

What Value

Tumbling between logic
and emotion
wanting identity
respecting unknown
treading slippery slope
making no progress
only words
following each other
and other mental
fragments not so easily defined
phrases chase
imagination
almost but
never quite catching
a dream from some undefined
time ago
time ago
time ago
time all gone
where such things do
that had such vitality
in its appointed moment
all but despised an instant
later later later
now
what value has the dream
now now now
outside of the healing
context of dream
moan kick shudder snore
no more
but
value now
I can only guess
Is your guess any less
astute determined careful
not to leave muddy footprints
In the fresh snow of the new day

Chimney

brick dust trickling
down outside of old chimney
long ago alone

someone

fall toward awake
that someone who always knows
finally at rest

Storage

storms in cold storage
only viewed by dreaming mind
careful not to see

Meta-gunsaku (gunsaku)

gathering haiku
storm clouds spitting three line rain
this is not the first

this is not the next
figure in statue garden
but one another

Nor is this one next
In a series of poems
Closer to loose group

you might stand right here
or here if this feels better
only you decide

but now look around
this may be the true First One
Somehow I doubt it

Certain so was I
Bottom to upwardly read
I was so certain

try to find handle
exit door painted on wall
will you write me out

if out ever was
how did you get there just now
and where are we now

this is not the last
verse in some linked poetry
all I have to say

this might be the last
you hear from me forever
are you listening

maybe this goes first
rearranged by your own mind
free to move about

This might be middle
surrounded on every side
by dreams of haiku
Gunsaku is a collection of haiku like verses written by the same author, regarding the same subject, designed to stand in no particular order. Unlike rensaku, gunsaku has no leader or regimentation of numeration.

Holding

holding company
close to the vest gambler
show us what you got

Now

now is poetic
before counting on fingers
storm clouds open loud

Belonging

self of the poet
belongs not to one person
but any who read
